For those who haven’t heard, last summer we teamed up with Soundbooth Theater to create a cinematic audio edition of The Bones at Point No Point. This isn’t your typical audiobook—it has a full cast of voice actors, original music, and immersive sound effects that bring the story to life in a completely new way.
Last July, Jeff, the CEO of Soundbooth Theater and a talented voice actor, and Ahmed, an incredible sound engineer, traveled all the way to Washington to begin production. During their visit, they recorded the authentic sounds of the Pacific Northwest, from audio at Pike Place Market to ferry rides and local restaurants. They even brought an underwater microphone to Hansville to capture the waves of Puget Sound, just steps away from where Austin’s fictional home is located.
Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos from those recording days!

Pearl (our corgi and the inspiration behind “Run” in the series) also got her moment to shine. Her barks, the sound of her running on the beach, splashing in the water, and even her panting were all recorded for the audio edition. It was pretty much the perfect day for Pearl—running, playing, and digging holes, all while being the center of attention. 🤣

As you can see below, Jeff and Ahmed truly went above and beyond to capture the sounds of the area. They waded into the chilly waters of Puget Sound to record the waves and even sprinted up a massive staircase in Hansville to replicate Austin’s footsteps for an important scene near the end of the book.

Jeff recently sent me this behind-the-scenes video from the production process. The team has recorded several live streams during the process, which you can find on their YouTube channel. Below is the first video, which I wanted to share with you all.
(Spoiler warning: The video contains details from Thomas Austin book 1, so if you haven’t read it yet, you might want to skip this.)
You can check out the full, two-hour behind-the-scenes video on Soundbooth’s official YouTube channel:
If you’re curious about what Austin’s voice will sound like but don’t want to watch the entire sneak peek, Jeff—who will be voicing Thomas Austin, along with other characters—recorded the clip below a few months ago from the beginning of book 1. It’s a great introduction to what you can expect from his performance.
The cinematic audio edition is expected to release this spring. I’ll share more updates as soon as the date is finalized, but for now, I wanted to give you this behind-the-scenes look at the project. This will be the first mystery series that Soundbooth Theater has produced, and I couldn’t be more excited about the work they’re doing. If you’d like to explore more of their projects, I’ll leave a link to their website here.
Thank you all for your continued support. I can’t wait for you all to hear this edition of the novel when it comes out.
